Waiting families

TYLER + JEN
Hello!
From the very start we would like to thank you for considering us. We deeply appreciate your willingness to help us and others like us build our families.
Let us introduce ourselves: we are Tyler and Jennifer, and we live in Colorado with our daughter Cecelia, whom we adopted in 2020 with the help of WCCS. We have been together for over six years and married since 2017. Tyler was born and raised in Cheyenne as the second of four siblings (two boys and two girls). He attended University of Wyoming in Laramie, where he received his degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Tyler is now the Operations Manager of his family-owned heavy civil construction and traffic control company. Jen was born in Australia and raised in California with her younger brother. She got her undergraduate degree in International Relations at Pomona College in California, before going to graduate school in Scotland where her focus was Policy Studies. She put this to use working overseas in higher education for a number of years, and now feels incredibly lucky to be full-time with Cecelia.
From the very beginning of our relationship we talked about adoption as part of our family story. Finding out that we may not be able to have biological children only allowed us to begin the adoption process sooner. We both come from close families and we dreamt of the same thing for ourselves for a long time. Cecelia continues to be the greatest gift for us and our families, and we know she will be a great big sister! She is smart and funny and brave and constantly amazes us.
Though the Covid-19 precautions and restrictions have meant added challenges for Cecelia’s first year of life, we have been constantly amazed by her and we have done our best to appreciate the time we have been allowed to bond and be present for every new and exciting development. With all of the time at home with a very active baby and two dogs, we also decided this year that it was time for us to have our own yard, so we moved to a new home about ten miles from where we had been living. It has been a wonderful change and we are looking forward to enjoying our new space in good weather. Our pets (two dogs and a cat) have adapted well to Cecelia. Becoming first-time parents during a pandemic has been challenging, but we are so excited to show Cecelia the world beyond our immediate community soon. This year has also shown us how capable we are as a family, and we hope we have the privilege of expanding our family through adoption again.
We live in a wonderful community with many parks and playgrounds nearby, and a new elementary school is only a five-minute walk from our home. Our cul-de-sac is full of families with children ranging from newborn to teenaged. We also live within 20 minutes of Tyler’s entire immediate family, and our two young nieces are amazing and loving cousins to Cecelia.
Jen’s family all live in California (including a new nephew on-the-way!) and we enjoy traveling to visit them whenever we can, and they have visited us several times in Colorado.
One of the best things about where we live is how close we are to the mountains, because we all love spending time outdoors. During the summer we take our dogs hiking, fishing and camping. During the winter we like to go snowshoeing with Cecelia, and our dogs absolutely love taking walks in the snow. We really like to cook as a family, and Jen loves to bake treats to share.
Traveling is another favorite activity of ours and we have been lucky to do so as a couple and with our families. We are also big sports fans! We went to a Colorado Rockies game on our first date and now we try to go to a baseball game every year on our anniversary. We especially love watching the Colorado Avalanche (NHL hockey team), and we even went to Sweden for our honeymoon to watch them play. Cecelia is very curious and adventurous, and we can’t wait to introduce her to more of our favorite activities.
Thank you again for considering this incredibly special gift. We wish you the best for the future.
