Financial Assistance

Adoption subsidies are available for the benefit of most waiting children. Subsidies vary among agencies and may include ongoing medical assistance through Medicaid and possibility a monthly financial subsidy. Medicaid coverage after finalization of the adoption is not guaranteed if the adoptive parents do not meet income guidelines or if the child’s foster care status does not meet certain federal guidelines (specifically, Title IV-E eligibility). In addition, many states will reimburse adoptive parents the legal expenses up to a certain cap, depending upon individual state guidelines. Adoptive parents are eligible for the federal Adoption Tax Credit. Please contact your tax consultant or accountant for further information.
