About Russian Adoptions

Why should I adopt from Russia?
Young healthy children wait in Russia for "forever" families. The Russian adoption process is quick and experienced staff is ready to help you.

Must I live in Wyoming to adopt a Russian child through Wyoming Children's Society?
No. Wyoming Children's Society is licensed to work in all 50 states and can work with U.S. citizens living abroad.

How much does it cost to adopt from Russia?

Our agency fee is $3,500.00 which is due and payable when you sign the adoption services agreement. Our foreign fee is $15,400.00 which is due when you accept your child. This fee is held in escrow until you return to the U.S. with your child. Home Study, INS, travel and miscellaneous fees in Russia are additional.

Is there financial help available?
Yes. Federal Tax Credit is available. Consult your accountant. Some banks offer loans to cover adoption expenses. Some employers will reimburse adoption expenses.

Do I have to travel?

Yes. The Russian government now requires families to travel to Russia twice. The first trip a family meets and accepts their child. This trip lasts approximately 4 to 5 days plus travel. During the second trip the child's adoption is finalized and he or she will come home with you. This trip is a bit longer. It can last up to two or three weeks in-country, but there is a 10 day waiting period that is usually waived by the judge which could shorten the length of this trip.

May I adopt more than one child at a time?
Yes. You may adopt more than one child at the same time. You may adopt siblings or unrelated children.

How long does it take to adopt a child from Russia?
Most families complete their adoption in six months. Length of time is partially determined by your home study agency, INS, and how quickly you complete your dossier.

Are there age limits for parents adopting from Russia?
At this time, no.

I am single and/or divorced. May I adopt?
Yes.

How often do delays and problems arise in international adoption?
Yes, there are frustrations in any adoption including inter-country adoption and many frustrations are beyond our control. Our Russian staff is competent and committed to providing you quality services and a positive adoption experience. They will work diligently to complete your adoption in a timely manner.

I would like to adopt an older child, is this possible from Russia?
Yes. You may consider a child up to the age of 14.
