Getting Started to Adopt a Russian Child   

 

The First Steps

  1. Contact the Wyoming Children's Society and see if you are comfortable in choosing us as your international adoption agency, and request an Application. (You must be under contract with an adoption agency accredited to handle adoptions in Russia to proceed.) Submit Application Form with Application Fee of $ 150.
     
  2.Apply for a U.S. passport.
     
  3. Begin to gather the documents (certified copies) required:
    a. Birth certificate (s)
    b. Marriage license and any divorce decrees
Note: you will need (2) copies of each, as one set will be submitted to INS and one will accompany your dossier.
Order now. The process to obtain certified copies of these critical documents can, in some cases, be lengthy, and might delay your adoption process, so please start now.
     
  4. With our assistance, file your I-600A with the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service)
    a. Obtain forms from us. (The I-600A is the peach colored form)
    b. Fill out form completely.
    c. Call us with your questions.

When completed and ready for mailing, your envelope will include:
     
  1. Your I-600A form fully filled out, signed and notarized
     
  2. (2) copies of each applicant's birth certificate (one certified, one photocopy)
     
  3. (2) copies of current marriage license, divorce decree(s) (one certified, one photocopy)
     
  4. Self-addressed stamped envelope, with brief note asking that your originals be returned to you.
     
  5. Cashier's check or money order for:
    a. Your I-600A filing fee-$460.00
    b. Plus $50-per applicant, for finger printing (everyone in your household 18 years or older must be fingerprinted)
